are you keeping score

Remember how I keep mentioning that I don't have many dresses with stripes? I think I need to stop saying that now. Somehow I've accumulated SO many striped dresses lately, and it's not that I particularly love stripes, it's just that the dresses that I happen to love have stripes on them; like this sweet little number from Dahlia Fashion. I guess I should keep score now of how many striped items I own :)

The title of this post is also the title of a song by a 1960's girl group called The Exciters, and if you don't know the song or the group, I highly recommend checking them out. Their album "Tell Him" is one of my favourites.

The weekend is fast approaching over here and Sunday is Canada Day, so Monday is a holiday. I am so excited for a long weekend! I have no particular plans, but sometimes that's really nice :)

Happy Thursday! <3 Lo

cottage weekend

Here is a little glimpse at what my weekend away at the cottage was like. It's my Aunt and Uncle's summer place, but they lent it to my sister and brother-in-law for the week, so myself and a few friends made it out there for a little visit. All I can say is that it was simply glorious, and I was definitely not ready to leave come Sunday night.

The sun was setting as we made our way across to the island on the ferry.

Saturday was spend on the beach, doing this.

I'm under the big floppy hat.

Enjoying beach activities.

Sunday was unfortunately a rainy day, but it was still great. We spent time in the hot tub when we could, and the rest was spent inside playing games, watching Hook, and drinking hot chocolate.

The weekend was finished off with a big grilled dinner of sausages and veggies.

In my mind, I'm still at the cottage enjoying the beach and the hot tub and the amazing quiet tranquillity. Perhaps I will make it back there again this summer.

sky blue sky

Most often when we think of what the colour blue represents, we think of a mood or emotion, usually associated with a negative or sad feeling. Well the colour blue can also represent beautiful, bright summer days, a clear ocean, or we can choose to associate the colour with a good feeling.

On this day, blue provided a VERY good feeling. I rarely wear this much of one colour, but it just kind of happened, and I kind of enjoyed it. And on this day blue meant a nice dinner date with Rob, finished off with a walk for ice cream and chatting and dreaming about our future together. Maybe I should wear blue more often...

sponsor deliciously yours in july for free!

I'm starting "sponsorship" opportunities for the first time on here to try it out, and I want to offer FREE space for the month of July! I have had a great experience sponsoring other blogs, and it has really helped to boost my readership. I want to offer FIVE spots for free for July to other bloggers. If you are interested, please email me at deliciouslyyourslo@gmail.com and I will take a look at your blog. Please note, that I do want to decide which blogs I will partner with based on whether it fits with the brand of my own blog and whether it will appeal to my readers as well. If this goes really well for July, than I may do it again in August! I would love love love to hear from you if you are a fellow blogger (or if you're not, maybe you know another blogger who would be interested?).

I'm so excited to work with other blogs, and can't wait to see what will come of this! Hope to hear from you soon!

a term of endearment

Temperatures are pretty hot here right now, so that means wearing my most summery dresses, keeping things as simple as possible with as few layers as possible, and wearing lighter colours. I have to admit, I kind of enjoy the hotter weather. I get cold very easily, and greatly dislike being cold, so the few precious months of warm weather that we get are certainly treasured.

How lovely was it of the person who named the sweetheart neckline, to name it after a term of endearment? Makes it seems that much more adorable and romantic. I love a good sweetheart neckline, but this is the only dress that I own with this design feature. Guess that makes this dress that much more special!

One of those days...

Yesterday was one of those days. Those days when nothing HUGE happens, but there are about a hundred tiny little things that build up and make it a miserable day. We all have them every once in awhile (and I'm SO thankful that they only happen every once in awhile). By the end of the day, I went straight home and got into my pajamas, feeling a little defeated.

But each day is a new day and brings new adventures. Therefore, I am choosing to forget about yesterday and instead be aware of the things that I am thankful for today.

1. Tea in the morning
2. Fresh cherries picked from our tree
3. Leftover ravioli and chocolate cake for lunch
4. A cute new sweater to keep me warm in crazy air conditioning
6. Great co-workers
5. Yoga class tonight
6. Getting to see people I love

I hope that you can also be thankful for the little things today, and not allow the annoying parts to get you down!

hand-me-down love

This dress, this lovely dress, is a hand-me-down. I grew up on hand-me-down's, from friends and cousins and my sister, so I'm more than comfortable taking someone's once-loved items. The fun thing about this particular hand-me-down piece, is that I originally picked it out for a friend. I barely remember it, because it was a few years ago, but my sister, myself, and our friend Erika went thrift shopping and I picked out this dress for Erika. I think she only ended up wearing it a few times, but when she recently moved out to the east coast she passed it along to me, knowing it would be something I would love.

sunset at queen's quay

Toronto has a beautiful waterfront area called Queen's Quay (pronounced "key"). I honestly don't ever visit this area of the city since I don't live close to the waterfront, but in the summer it's such a pleasant place to be, with all of the patio restaurants and boats on the water. I think I'm going to make an effort to get down here a few more times over this summer.

I had a hard time picking photos to share with you because it was REALLY windy and my hair was going crazy, so I wasn't the happiest with a lot of them. But I love this vintage dress, and couldn't pass up the chance to take photos in such a nice setting!

where the wild things are

I was fortunate to grow up in a rural area where exploring forests was a big part of my childhood. I loved finding new trees to climb and new caves to navigate. Now that I live in a city, exploring forests is not a part of my everyday life. So when I feel the desire to be amongst trees and birds and little woodland creatures, I seek out the little bits of forest that I can find. It always makes me feel a bit like a curious child again.

I've had this dress for a few years now and I only pull it out during the warmest summer days, as it is so light. I truly love this little vintage piece and count it as one of my favourite items. I love the simplicity of the design and pattern. It reminds me a bit of a daisy.

a product of my generation

Being born in the 1980's means that no matter what you do, it's in your blood. The neon, the big hair, the peplum...it all comes back at some point. And no matter what, you can't get away from it. While I'm certainly not a neon person, there are definitely elements of the 80's that work their way into my wardrobe.

For instance, this top and these shoes. This top was originally an 80's dress, that I turned into a little blouse. I bring it out when I'm feeling nostalgic for my younger years. And these gold sandals I received recently from my dad have really grown on me. At first I couldn't see myself wearing them, and now I absolutely love them.

Do you ever get a bit of 80's inspiration? How do you mix it with modern styles?
